October; You’re Perfect: Bucket List

October’s Party

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came –
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.”

15 Things to do in October

October, You're Perfect. www.goodlifeofahousewife.com

October is about half way through, but there is still plenty of time to enjoy some festivities.

  • Go to the Cider Mill – Try going to a new cider mill. Pick up a gallon of cider and some fresh cinnamon donuts.
  • Drink Hot Cider with Rum – After you pick up your cider, try the adult version. Warm it up by the stove or microwave, using care not to burn it. Mix in some rum and a dollop of butter. Stir until melted. Top with a dash of cinnamon.
  • Make a Halloween Costume – Get creative and look for fun costumes for the whole family.
  • Go for a Walk Down a Path with Trees Changing Colors – If you live in a seasonal climate take some time to disconnect and go for a long walk. Have alone time or go with someone. Don’t forget your Pumpkin Spice Latte!
  • Have a Bonfire and Roast Marshmallows – The weather is going to start to get chilly quickly. Enjoy warming up by a fire and toasting some marshmallows before bonfire season stops.
  • Play in the Leaves – Rake them up and toss them around. I love making a big pile and watching my dogs burst through them chasing after a tennis ball.
  • Carve Pumpkins – Set them out on the porch and admire your designs by putting a tea light candle in them.
  • Watch Disney Halloween Movies  – My personal favorites are Hocus Pocus and Halloween Town. Practical Magic is also fun for an adult spooky movie.
  • Make Chili – This is a fun tradition for Halloween. You can make it a head of time and heat it up after everyone has gone Trick 0r Treating. Make a beef chili and top it with a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of yellow cheese, and some Fritos for crunch! Yum!
  • Go Trick-or-Treating – Obviously, Rain or Shine, it’s Trick or Treating Time! Rain or Shine, It's Trick or Treating Time www.goodlifeofahousewife.com
  • Make Roasted Pumpkin Seeds – Roast low and slow 300 degrees for about 45- 60 minutes. Check to make sure they are golden but not burned.  Try a new flavor or adding different seasonings.  I added cinnamon sugar to my pumpkin seeds this year. It made for a delicious new take on the classic salted pumpkin seed.
  • Sit on the Porch while it Rains  – If you can be so lucky to catch an afternoon storm, enjoy it from your porch with a glass of cider.
  • Have a Harry Potter Marathon – So many movies, so little time. October is the perfect month for a Harry Potter Marathon. Surprise your family with some Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans
  • Sit in a Park and Observe the Changing Leaves – Check out a local park or find a special one. We stumbled across this gem on travel’s through the mitten.
  • Wear Red Flannels with the Family – Bust out those red flannels and take some family photos. It’s Lumberjack Season!
