Fruit Clutter

Fruit Clutter

“One bad apple spoils the bunch” – Proverb

Doesn’t it always seem like fruit is navigating its way around the kitchen? This seems to be the case in my house. It will slowly be moved around the kitchen and in the process get dropped, bruised and often abandoned. If your like me and tried the stylish fruit bowl, you know this does not work. Unless you have a big family of fruit eaters, the fruit often gets forgotten about. As they say, “One bad apple spoils the bunch.” This is true. In the literal sense, if you have a rotten apple at the bottom of your fruit bowl, you will often find that it cross contaminates and ruins the other fruit. What a waste of money. I can’t describe the food shame I feel when I toss out food that should have made it in to a recipe or lunch but instead finds it way into the garbage.

A few weeks ago as I was gathering my decorating jars and stands for a baby shower, my cupcake stand, also included in the decor, found its way onto my kitchen counter. “Hmm“, I thought, “Well this could work….”  and it did! Normally this cupcake stand would follow the fruit on it’s journey of migration around the kitchen until it eventually ended back down in the
basement.  If I my photoshop skills were on a par, I would have a beam of white light coming from behind this cupcake stand. Otherwise, check out all the fruit I was able to arrange on there:  8 apples, 8 oranges, 4 kiwis, and 3 bananas. There was definitely more room for layering if the need arose. This just happened to be all the fruit in my house. The pineapple does not fit, but hey, I can’t solve all of the worlds problems. Anyway, I heard a rumor that you want to flip the pineapple upside down in the fridge. This will send the pineapple’s juice back through the fruit, making it all around delicious.

On a side note,I want to mention my cupcake stand has a small edge which prevents the fruit from rolling off. I happened to pick mine up in the clearance section of Target right after Halloween a few years ago. I have not seen more since, but I did find this one which is black and offers a slight edge. Good luck with your fruit sorting adventures! Let me know if this works for you!
