Healthy Smash Cakes for a First Birthday

Healthy smash cakes that avoid all that sugar. Perfect for a first cake.

The Smash Cake. There is really only one. Not to put the pressure on, but the smash cake is perhaps the best part of any first birthday. It’s usually hilarious and adorable all at the same time. Some moms opt for regular cake for the main event. Since most babies usually don’t have sugar like this, they usually will smash right in. Even the quietest of babies will make that “mmmmm” sound. If you are concerned about the sugar try some of the smash cakes below for some healthier options. If you are going to a bakery, talk to them about the different options available. Most bakery’s will offer a menu of cakes your little one will love. When I went to my local Kroger for our smash cake, they offered a lighter, less sugary version.  If you’re unsure of your baby eating cake for the first time, you can always do a trial cake run. Use your little taste tester for a first birthday photo shoot. For help planning your little one’s first birthday, check out ULTIMATE GUIDE TO PLANNING A FIRST BIRTHDAY.

Beautiful First Birthday Cake Toppers

Don’t wait until  the last minute to pick out a beautiful cake topper. If you are making your cake yourself look at getting a special topper. You can do a first birthday candle that is more unique then the traditional ones that come standard in the grocery store. There are also endless options of cake toppers, like small crowns, or “one” signs. If you have a first birthday theme picked out, coordinate a topper to match your theme, such as a Flamingo Topper, or Hot Air Ballon Topper. If you opt for a more durable cake topper you can save it as memorabilia or give it to your child as a toy when she  is of the appropriate age.
