How do so few words come together so simply, but so powerfully? It’s so easy to get caught up in the overwhelming-ness of life. Sometimes we forget to stop and take a moment to be in the present and take time to enjoy peoples’ presence. It’s the moments we take enjoying one another and bonding that adds value to our lives. I love reminders like this one. It’s one of the reasons why I push myself to say yes to doing something or going somewhere, even when I really don’t want to. This is especially true if it will be a new experience. It’s like going to the gym; I never regret a workout. I feel spending time with good friends and family is the same way. Two summers ago (PreBaby) I was working long days and sometimes six days a week. I had blinked and the summer was over. I had so few memories of that summer with my friends. Of which, I didn’t even realize lacked memories until the following summer when we were reminiscing. A whole summer had passed and I only remembered going to the Zoo months and months earlier.
It was a little disappointing, but I valued taking that time. I also realized that even though life can be busy with work and responsibilities, we have to take the time to enjoy what happens in between work and responsibility. We need to say, “Yes,” to the people that matter. Ultimately, that’s what we remember when we look back. I feel like this becomes even more important once we have children and become the super glue that holds the family together.
